Terms of Service

These terms govern use of Des Moines Property Watch, its calculations, downloads, articles, and public-record assistant.

Informational purpose

This is an independent civic information project, not the Polk County Assessor, City of Des Moines, a tax authority, law firm, appraisal service, or accounting firm. Content is general information and not legal, tax, investment, or appraisal advice.

No legal determination

A record’s appearance does not determine whether an exemption is lawful, deserved, current, complete, or permanent. The county and applicable law control. Calculated homeowner and business scenarios are transparent comparisons, not tax bills, arrears, forecasts, or claims that money is owed.

Accuracy and availability

The project uses public sources and documents its methods, but public records can contain errors and services can be interrupted. Data is provided as available without a promise that every record is complete, current, or suitable for a particular decision. Consequential use should be checked against the linked primary source.

Permitted use

You may read, link to, quote with attribution, and download the public dataset for research, reporting, education, and civic use. Do not use the service to harass people, misrepresent records, evade access controls, overload infrastructure, or imply endorsement by this project.

AI output

The assistant is source-bounded but can still produce errors. It cannot change public records or make legal determinations. Users remain responsible for verifying answers.

Voluntary support

Tips are voluntary and buy no coverage, access, influence, correction priority, or benefit. Checkout and refunds, if any, are handled through Stripe and applicable law.

Changes and contact

Material term changes will update the effective date. Questions may be submitted through the contact form.
